Frequently asked questions about Secrets of Sicily violet artichoke hearts

How do you combine artichoke hearts?

The consistency of Segreti di Sicilia Artichoke Hearts is firm and meaty and the flavor of the artichoke is well balanced. This allows various uses in the kitchen but we recommend consuming it naturally, without further processing. The intense flavor of the artichoke hearts, due to the seasoning with typical Sicilian aromas and the preservation in extra virgin olive oil, already makes them special. They can accompany a platter of cheeses, cured meats and olives, gourmet bruschetta or original salads and sandwiches. The preservation oil is the prized Frantoi Cutrera extra virgin olive oil, Biancolilla variety, with aromatic notes of artichoke, and can be reused as an aromatic condiment for other bruschettas, for salads or simply on bread.

How are artichoke hearts seasoned?

There are many Sicilian recipes for artichokes in oil, we have chosen the family one, the recipe kept by our grandparents. The scent of mint and oregano, typical Sicilian aromas, and the spiciness of chilli pepper are an unmistakable touch. Blanching in vinegar gives a particular intensity to the recipe.

What are the ingredients of Sicilian artichoke hearts?

For our artichoke hearts we only use Sicilian "Violetto" artichokes, a typical variety grown in various areas of the island and in particular in the south-eastern ones. To these we add, during processing, Frantoi Cutrera extra virgin olive oil (Biancolilla variety) and typical aromatic herbs that go well with the artichoke, i.e. oregano, spicy chilli pepper and mint.
