Grand Cru and PGI Sicilian Extra Virgin Olive Oil — Frantoi Cutrera

The Grand Cru and PGI collection brings together Cutrera extra virgin olive oils produced from selected single Sicilian cultivars and PGI Sicily, the certified Protected Geographical Indication blend. These oils are for those who want to discover the differences between the island's varieties and appreciate the complexity of quality Sicilian extra virgin olive oil.
Grand Cru oils are monovarietal – produced from a single olive variety, without blends – each with a distinct aromatic profile linked to the cultivar and its origin.
Nocellara del Belice is the most famous cultivar of western Sicily: medium-intense fruitiness, notes of fresh grass, artichoke and almond, with balanced pungency and bitterness. Recognized as one of the best olive cultivars in the world.
Biancolilla is an autochthonous Sicilian variety with a more delicate character: floral, with notes of grass and ripe fruit, light bitterness and pungency. Ideal for those who prefer an elegant and refined oil.
Tonda Iblea is the typical cultivar of eastern Sicily – the Ragusa and Syracuse area – with a decisive aromatic profile, notes of green tomato and almond, persistent pungency.
Cutrera PGI Sicily, on the other hand, is a blend of Sicilian cultivars, certified Protected Geographical Indication: it guarantees that the olives come exclusively from Sicily and that the oil is produced according to controlled specifications. It is the ideal entry point to discover certified Sicilian extra virgin olive oil at an affordable price.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Grand Cru mean? It's a term Cutrera uses to identify high-end single-cultivar oils — produced from a single olive variety, in limited quantities, with manually selected olives.

What does single-cultivar mean? It means the oil is produced from a single olive variety, without blending with other cultivars. It allows one to appreciate the specific character of each variety.

What is the difference between IGP and Grand Cru? IGP Sicilia is a blend certified by geographical origin, more accessible and versatile. Grand Cru oils are high-end single-cultivar, with more specific and complex aromatic characteristics.

How should they be used? Uncooked, to enhance their aromas. Nocellara is perfect with meat and soups, Biancolilla with fish and vegetables, Tonda Iblea with legumes and bruschetta. IGP Sicilia is excellent for everyday use on everything.

How should they be stored? Away from light and heat, at room temperature. Consume within 18 months of bottling.
